This letter from Paul the Apostle, to his younger assistant Timothy, is a moving personal summary of what Paul wants Timothy to know and practice. Paul, who is clearly in prison at this time, believes that the “time for his departure is near”. He uses this letter to encourage Timothy to “be strong” in the face of hardship and opposition following Paul’s own example.
